Machining the New Compound

The design of the pivot for this compound is inspired by the pivot found on Southbend 9 inch lathe. It has the advantage of being able to adjust the angle of the compound without loosening all 4 bolts of the compound clamp (one of which is often under a part of the compound).

A Partially Cleaned Up Topslide.

The scale has been milled from the casting, the sides, ends, top and bottom squared up. It has not been brought down to final dimension and the dovetail has not been cleaned up.
