Pictured to the left is a Grizzly G4000 9x20 lathe. The Grizzly lathe is very similar to the lathes of the same size from HarborFreight, Jet and several other vendors. In fact the parts are generally interchangeable. This section has more information about the modifications that I have done and how I did them.(12/01/2007) Click here for more information about the modifications on the Grizzly 9x20 lathe. |

This section contains information for those interested in home foundry setups. While I have never been seriously injured, this hobby has the potential for extremely serious injury if one does not exercise a considerable degree of caution. Molten metal can burn through cloth almost instaneously. If spilled on concrete, the heat of the molten metal can cause the concrete to explode. In spite of the potential dangers, it is also a hobby of great rewards. It is very rewarding to create a pattern, use the pattern to form a mold, melt the metal and pour the metal into a waiting mold. Then after allowing the metal to cool, shake out the mold to see the part you have created emerge from the sand.
